The Leaping Deer Ranch Cookbook

If you’ve ever shared a meal with us here at Leaping Deer Ranch, you know that food is woven into just about everything we do. It’s how we welcome people, how we wind down after a long day, and how we celebrate most of the amazing things that happen around here. Back in February, when our ranch chef Alexis Porter had the idea of putting together a cookbook, it just felt… right. Like the natural next step in the story of the ranch, and an added expression of what makes this place so special.

Our kitchen was turned into a happy kind of chaos when we began: pots simmering, cameras flashing, “taste-testers” drifting in and out pretending they didn’t just want something to eat. Alexis has been at the heart of it all, collecting the recipes that have become part of ranch life and creating a few new unique ones along the way.

This cookbook isn’t fancy or fussy—it’s the food we actually eat here. The meals that warm you up after a winter morning outside. The bright, refreshing, dishes inspired by whatever the garden blessed is with that week. The “everyone grab a fork” desserts that never last more than ten minutes on the kitchen counter.

We’ve been working on this steadily since February, trying and tweaking everything, and laughing through the flops. It’s been a labor of love, and a dream that we hope can come to fruition with a little help from our community here in New Mexico, and all around the world.
